10 Ways to Jumpstart
Whenever I became the new leader of an organization during my management career, I would assemble the management team in a room with two flip charts.
One flip chart was labeled “Hopes.” The other flip chart was labeled “Fears.”
It took awhile, with a new “boss”, for the team to have the courage to plunge in. But, eventually the ice was broken and two lists began to formulate.
It’s not uncommon when one becomes the leader of an organization that something needs fixing. There is the occasional retirement or someone getting promoted or leaving for a better opportunity or career change.
But, many of the “opportunities” for me were because there were financial or marketing or competitive or personnel issues that required change.
It took courage for the management team to fill out the “Fears” flip chart; lots of angst. But, the “Hopes” flip chart was one that, once unleashed, the possibilities became almost unwieldy.
It’s fun, exhilarating, inspiring in our individual lives to think about hopes and its older sibling, dreams. Except sometimes we forget about them, especially when hopelessness or despair sneaks into our lives. We can get beaten down by life because of a health problem, financial…
